Aller Bush Telegraph goes digital

The Aller Bush Telegraph has for a number of years provided a great way to pass information around the village, thanks to the efforts of Catherine Saber and her team of volunteers. We're trying to make it even better and more efficient, while imposing less on the generosity and time of those volunteers.
Many of you already receive ABT news by email. We are about to start using an email newsletter that will replace paper communications. Obviously, not everyone has email, so copies will be posted on the various village notice boards and we hope that neighbours will ensure that any vulnerable people without email will hear important news by word of mouth.
We will be using the same system that the Parish Council used for flood information, and that means, if you are not presently on the list, we need your email address and at least a post code. It won't be passed on to anyone else and will only be used for village communications. At present we estimate we have about half of the properties in the village covered. Please fill in the form below, as soon as possible, and encourage your friends and neighbours to do likewise, so we can add you to the list and you don't miss out on important village information.

Community Savings Scheme for the Levels

It started in Aller, with a few random comments in the Village Survey last year. Now it's up and running!
Langport & Levels Area Savings & Thrift (LLAST) is a Community Savings Scheme affiliated to Camelot Credit Union, which covers the whole South Somerset District. We are based at The Angel in Langport, open on Friday mornings from 11am to 1pm. We offer safe and secure savings, covered by life insurance and the Finanancial Services Compensation Scheme, and small, affordable loans, regulated by FSA, to members. You pay just £1 to join, and all ages are welcome, though you can't take out a loan until you are 18, and you have to save for 13 weeks before being eligible to borrow.
Follow us on Twitter @_LLAST or visit www.llast.co.uk.

David Heath MP Presents £5,000 cheque to Aller Park Rangers

Footballers at Aller Park Rangers F.C. are celebrating the award of a £5,000 grant from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. The Club was presented with a giant cheque at their home ground in Somerton by local MP David Heath and Aaron Clements from the Somerset FA.

The funding will allow Aller Park Rangers to develop 3 new teams over the next 3 years, a new mini soccer team for local young players to access, an additional youth team to cater for the growing number of players at the club, and an adult side for players moving into adult football. Steve Morrison the Chairman of the club will be overseeing the grant, supported by staff from the Somerset Football Association. The club attracts players from across South Somerset.

Anyone interested in joining Aller Park Rangers Football Club should contact Steve Morrison Tel: 01458 251388 or email stevemorrison4@msn.com or visit the club website www.allerparkrangers.co.uk

Aller Park Rangers - a success story

When Steve Morrison set up Aller Park Rangers Football Club at the Aller village playing field back in November 2004 with eight 7 year olds from High Ham School, he probably never expected to see success on the present scale. Since then it's grown to become one of the biggest youth football teams in Somerset with over 180 players and now has a girls and Men's team. They have been awarded the prestigious FA Charter Standard Development award.

Up the Pole! Broadband gets nearer to the Village Hall.

At last - we are one step closer to getting broadband into the Village Hall, with the erection of the pole on Friday. Another BT team will make the internal connections, and we hope to be 'live' within two weeks. This is a community resource for anyone who has no internet access of their own and wants to use web-based facilities or e-mail.

We want to hear your ideas of how we can best make this link (and our two community computers) available for anyone in the village to use. Speak to any Village Hall committee member, your Parish Councillor or your Aller Bush Telegraph contact, or leave a comment here.

Today, Sat 19th March, we met with Graham Watson our Langport-based MEP, to discuss the broadband provision in the village. We were pleased to see so many people there, proving this is an issue that affects most of Aller.
