Aller Grape Harvest 2012

Aller Hill's grapes are on their way to the press for another vintage year. The crop was modest this year -- picking was finished by lunchtime -- but Guy Smith, shown below after the last crate of fruit was loaded on the truck, says the quality is high. The weather cooperated and gave us a misty morning (as seen in the second photo below) -- lots of dew on the grapes -- but reasonable temperatures and no rain. In the third picture below, Laura Evans, the other half of the Smith & Evans lable, looks on as some of the picking crew enjoy a drop of rosé from last year's vintage. The bottom photo shows a dewy spider web protecting some of the pinot grapes just before they were felled by the photographer's secateurs.
