The Somerset Community Oil Scheme already has over 80 members, and over 75% of the members are enjoying the benefits of bulk-buying domestic heating oil. In November, they ordered 39,300 litres for 47 members, who paid 55.5p per litre compared with an average commercial price of 61.5p per litre.
Between them these members have saved a massive £2,961.58. The scheme is open to anyone; individuals, churches, community organisations and business can all join. There is an annual membership fee, but on average members are saving £30 - £45 on 1,000 litres.
