Local Radio changes - effect on Aller

BBC Somerset are considering removing medium wave programmes, relying on access either through FM frequencies or the internet. Whilst this may seem a small change, it will affect Aller. BBC Somerset on FM is not available to large parts of the village, due to the 'shadow' of the hill. In an emergency, or to communicate during a disaster, the Parish Council would rely on sharing news or instructions via local radio, fine if medium wave is still accessible, but a problem if it's not.

As part of the consultation process, the BBC has invited comments on the subject of closing the medium wave frequency. These should be sent to dqf.consultation@bbc.co.uk

I encourage parishioners to make their views known.

Gerard Tucker - Chairman, Aller Parish Council.
